Dior Miss Dior Le Parfum ~ New Fragrances

New Fragrances Dior Miss Dior Le Parfum

by: Sanja Pekic

The house of Dior continues to expand its line of Miss Dior fragrances, formerly known as Miss Dior Cherie, with the new edition Miss Dior Le Parfum launching in September 2012. Miss Dior Le Parfum is the new perfume extract, more dense and rich with pronounced sophisticated character. The scent is described as a seductive, elegant, sensual and intoxicating nocturnal fragrance, suitable for a special rendezvous. It states its femininity with oriental-chypre character and prominent and opulent floral notes. Perfumer François Demachy said he “wanted to bring something precious and luminous to the composition of Miss Dior Le Parfum, like an oriental jewelry set or the reflections of shimmering fabric.” The composition includes high concentrations of the following ingredients: mandarin, Bulgarian rose absolute, Turkish rose absolute, patchouli, amber and vanilla.

Top notes: mandarin Heart: Bulgarian rose, Turkish rose Base: amber, patchouli, vanilla The face of the perfume is elegant yet natural actress Natalie Portman who shows a new aspect of her seduction: more confident and more womanly. Miss Dior Le Parfum is available as a perfume extract in a bottle of 40 ml.

Update: Gave this a try recently and unfortunately on me it is "Migraine City" - very very strong. Washed it off when I got home but the smell still lingered after I had a shower as well. I am still missing the 2011 Miss Dior Cherie with the strawberry (no popcorn like the 2005) but that one is no longer being made! May have to go back to Chanel Coco Madamoiselle - that seems to be staying the same - "Too many Miss Dior's spoil the perfume" I say!

I emailed Dior's customer service and they said that Miss Dior Le Parfum will be available in a 40 ml bottle for $82. Not sure why some blogs are quoting $175.

Is this really an extrait? Neiman has it on their site for $82 but no size description. If it's really an extrait and that's the price, BRAVO and I will be needing it. : )

Dior is definitely abusing the brand by releasing so many different flankers that all smell very similar, and the reformulations/name changes, is this a new perfume extract for miss Dior or miss Dior, who knows that is why you don't sell to completely different scents yet call them the same name. It is even worse in Australia, they have miss Dior and miss Dior next to each other and they are still selling miss Dior Cherie as well.

Rant over :/

I smelled this in a magazine strip thing.I don't know how much stock you guys take in those (I bought one of my signatures because of one of those things so I don't discount them lol)but "Miss Dior" le parfum smelled very luxurious in it!I'll definitely be trying it now.

While I adore Dior fragrances, I too am sick of all the flankers, name changes, new formulations etc. etc.But having said that, it does sound lovely! I love J'adore L'or better than J'adore, so we will see.

Although the thought of yet another Dior Miss Dior Cherie Dior Cherie lalalala lol, you get the hint, just gave me a slight headache, this actually looks like one I could love!

Sounds quite luscious - I will be very interested to try this one. I quite like the sweetness and freshness of the 2011 Miss Dior Cherie but the new one sounds as though it will be a more grown up Miss Dior! As I have now used up every drop of the 2011 "Cherie" am in the market for a new perfume. Wonder if they will still keep the 2011 one going or are slowly getting rid of all the Cheries and only having the one "Miss Dior". Guess we will know in time. Is the original Miss Dior from way back when still going to be available??

I think it's the same concept as Ja'dore, the tab version 7.5ml perfume extrait replace by Ja'dore L'or, a 40ml spray version perfume.

Wow another Miss Dior that will probably smell the same as the rest of them. I'm always confused when I go to the Dior counter because they all look the same, sometimes it seems the sales assistants don't even know which is which now.

Nathalie is cute indeed, but as for the fragrance, when I see it in the store, I am confused, I simply don't know any more is it a flanker of this or that flanker, and is there any possibility to find the very first, original?

Fragrance Review For Miss Dior

Eau De Toilette Originale

2011

This was a reformulation of the original Miss Dior Eau de Toilette from '47, which was a much lighter concentration of the Miss Dior Eau de Parfum. This is strikingly beautiful and in today's fragrance context, a superb unisex cologne of green. What an aroma. This was launched in 2011 and at the time this was a throwback to the classic green floral chypres of the Golden Age of Perfume. The bottle looks exactly like the decanter of toilet water from '47 in a glass bottle and glass stopper. Beautiful. Retro. Classic vintage perfume. I sometimes just love to collect old perfume bottles! The scent is phenomenal. In fact for me it's the galbanum note, becoming a rarity in today's perfume world, which makes this such a winner. I adore the galbanum note. It smells of autumn evenings, of verdure, a grove at midnight, blades of grass, and jasmine bushes in the moonlight. When I was little growing up in Brooklyn and the inner cities of the boroughs of New York City such as the Bronx and Queens, the very few jasmine flowers I found in neighbor's gardens, and especially star shaped Confederate jasmine, was a pleasure for my nose. This reminds me of when I would sneak into stranger's gardens and smell the white jasmines.

The opening note is an unapologetic aromatic throw-up of green notes. There's a giant galbanum which is dominating the top but let's not forget there is more going on here. There is a soap scent coming from a typical Eau de Toilette skin freshening toilet water. This is aldehydic. I can't ignore the aldehyde content in this fragrance. These are fresh and soapy aldehydes. With the green notes it smells like a bar of soap with green Irish spring smell. This is also rather like a men's cologne or bar of soap. At times it even reminds me faintly of the openings to such green fresh outdoorsy colognes like Tsar by Van Cleef & Arpels, or Coty's Aspen as well as Ralph Lauren Polo in the green bottle. Now don't get me wrong. And don't get the wrong idea. This is not as masculine as those aforementioned frags. This is not a man's cologne. It's a chypre for women. But it can be worn by men who wear the scents I've mentioned because of the notes that smell so much like the ingredients in the men's chypres and greens.

The floral note of jasmine and jasmine sambac is so beautiful, dreamy, indolic, yet at the same time clean (I guess because of the aldehydes). There is a musky floral aroma as well. This is not a shy jasmine. It's similar to the fragrant and dark jasmine in Alien by Thierry Mugler. In other words an Oriental jasmine. A beautiful very beautiful jasmine. I love jasmines as much as the next girl. In perfume when we get jasmine we are fortunate to smell a note that has long been a part of the perfume industry since the beginning. To think that Grasse jasmine was the available ingredient in Chanel and Dior's time in France, and that there were laborers in Provence who would collect jasmine in countless baskets to be sent to perfumery labs for distillation and for extracts to make into oil for perfume. The scent must have been beyond amazing. To think that even before French modern perfumery was around, the Ancient World had their jasmine perfumes: ancient Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Greeks and Romans. It is said that Cleopatra loved jasmine and had it poured into her bath water. It's a fragrance of exquisite classical beauty and it delivers all that it should in Miss Dior.

The dry down in this scent should have been woodsy with further green notes of vetiver and patchouli and musk. Those woods-greens in the original parfum were ravishing and perfect. The musk as well. In the Eau de Toilette they cut down on many base notes and kept the patchouli herbs, leaves and plant scent. I love patchouli and in the end this is all about the patchouli. If you enjoy patchouli based perfumes, this is a treat. I love the oily herbal scent emitting from this patchouli. When you put your nose to your skin as it wears for hours, it also turns somewhat into an incense. The musk keeps it in the unisex body. Ultimately this fragrance is not sweet nor stereotypically feminine. It lacks the sweet stuff: no citrus, no peach, no other fruit notes, no florals of rose, orchid, ylang, or heliotrope, iris or violet. It's pure jasmine floral. But it's glorious. For me this is a very easy to wear and simple Oriental and chypre combined. Miss Dior EDT can be worn in the autumn and winter. It has a night time and very aromatic warm scent for the wearer who wants to smell good and earthy in the cold winter months.

It matches up with fur coats and leathers. I also detect vetiver and asafetida which remind me slightly of Magie Noire by Lancôme and a bit like Ivoire de Balmain. There is also something of Mugler Alien but far more enjoyable. At the same time I don't want to say that this scent is 100 percent like those fragrances. It stands out on it's own as a very gorgeous green chypre. I would like to add that this is not what I was expecting. The 2011 version and the Parfum from '47 are 2 entirely different animals. The perfume has so many notes and so much complexity and elegance, a glamorous floral green. This is green and floral but less floral, and with a softer and more delicate concentration.

This is a modern classic which deserves more praise and more credit.

Beautiful Miss Dior

Christian Dior where would we be without you?

Thank You !

Miss Dior Cherie Eau de Parfum Christian Dior perfume

I pride myself on never typing up a "non review" here on one of my favorite websites, (I love you Fragrantica!), but I just cannot help myself. Like many others, I have gone from confused to pissed to downright OVER IT. I have about 3 little sprays left of the original Miss Dior Cherie, circa 2005. It is in a small sample spray, as I never purchased a bottle of that eccentric, quirky fragrance with it's strawberry jam smeared over buttery toast note. While I was busy playing catch up and getting my favorite goodies from other fragrance houses, I expected MDC to be there. It was, after all, a best-selling fragrance like Chanel's Coco Mademoiselle. Besides, I remained on the fence. Did I *really* love that eccentric, quirky fragrance in that lovely bottle with the silver bow? At first, I thought, "No. I don't like this. It just isn't ME." Later, I asked, "Why, then, when I take out my spray sample, can I NOT stop compulsively pressing my nose to my wrist all day long? Wait a minute! I actually enjoy this perfume enough to call it love! It's not something I would want every day or even every week. But it is something that I definitely want." By the time I came to this realization and had the money set aside to commit to purchasing my very own full bottle, I read here of it's reformulation. I was worried, but certain that I would be able to find a bottle of the old juice.

Still, I had to be sure so I requested small samples from three seperate locations. I wanted to come home and compare each sample with what my dwindling vial of the original. Here is where the confusion began. My S-----A sample smells "off," (March 2011). It goes on smelling burnt, sharp and stale. Out of several dozen samples from S-----A, I have only experienced this "perfume gone bad" thing a few times. Though I don't know the explanation, I can only assume it has to do with some perfumes being exposed for long periods to the bright lights and air sans their protective caps or tops. At first, I thought that the S-----A sample was just the reformulation and I was shocked at how terrible it was. Luckily, I had my two other samples, (one of which was like pulling teeth to obtain). I tested both of the others. The one from Nords was definitely the 2011 version. It was nice but boring. Basically, patchouli with some juicy orange and a hint of strawberry. Gone was/is that quirky caramel popcorn and jammy strawberry. 2011 MDC is "fresh" and could be worn by anyone. It lacks depth, character and charisma. It also lacks any power. On my skin, one spray of 2005 MDC just lingers forever and then some. 2011 MDC dries down very quickly, turns into a safe whisper and completely disappears within 3 hours.

Finally, my samples from two other dept. stores were obviously the original formula or at the very least, the 2007 version. They smelled very close, if not identical to my precious "old" sample. As I type this, I haven't even gotten to the most frustrating element of this whole nonsense and I suspect I am not alone in what I am about to write. In two states, (California and Texas), and over 6 different retail locations, not ONE SINGLE Sales Associate has heard ANYTHING about the 2011 reformulation. In fact, when I tell them, I am met with either "Really? Are you sure it isn't just different packaging?" or more often, "Nothing has changed with Miss Dior Cherie. I have sold countless bottles and all of my customers are happy...no one but YOU has noticed any difference. You are mistaken." When I insist that it is different and offer to direct them to this site for proof, they turn defensive and at times, downright pissy towards me! I spent enough years working in Retail Sales to know when someone is brushing me off, rolling their eyes and sneaking behind a counter to talk sh!t about the paranoid customer.

So, what am I to do? I know for a fact that there is a half-full bottle of the old juice on display at my local D------'s. I actually offered to pay full price for that half-used up tester bottle. I have no other way to know for certain which version I am getting! The Sales Manager was firm and told me that there is no way she would sell me that tester...that she "can't." Puh-lease! Hell, she could say the bottle broke, zero it out of inventory and pocket the $80+ bucks. haha! Just sayin'. Instead, she and everyone else tells me that what they have on display is the *same exact* product as what they have for sale behind the counter and therefore, I must purchase a new, unopened bottle. Since they refuse to listen to me or show any interest in educating themselves and clearly, Dior has no interest in educating their retailers, I refuse to waste everyone's time by purchasing a new bottle that may or may not be what I want. At this point, it is coming up on almost one year since the reformulation and the odds of me getting the oldie is pretty small, right? I would have to open it, spray it, realize it is not the product I want and return it on the spot. That would just be more stress than it's worth. And honestly, I know for sure that any SA would certainly be beyond annoyed with me for doing that.

Now the confusion deepens as the "Cherie" is being dropped and if this past year is any indication of future experiences, I am going to be told that this "reboot" is only a packaging change, blah blah blah. I suppose for the "casual" perfume wearer, the 2011 version may seem the same...or if they notice a difference but no one has told them any different, they chalk it up to new bottle vs. their older bottle or maybe they think their nose is wrong...or their skin chemistry has changed. Hell, I don't know what they think. How can customers and Sales Associates NOT detect the clear difference? Ladies and Gentleman, I think I can speak for the majority of "non-casual" 'fume heads when I proclaim: THE NOSE DOES NOT LIE.

I realize this is not a review and it may be borderline rant-like, but I just had to express my frustration with this whole Miss Dior Cherie debacle. I don't have any personal friends that will get where I am coming from like my fellow Frangrantica members. So, please accept my apology for breaking my own rule. I have vented rather than reviewed, but it's finally off of my chest and though it may be annoying to a few, I am certain that some of you will empathize with my experience regarding MDC. At this point, I am so annoyed by the whole thing that even that quirky, eccentric juice isn't even enough to warrant one more blank stare or dismissive denial.
